The Korean church acquired full autonomy in 1930 and maintained its affiliation to the United Methodist Church. Other denominations such as the Church of the Nazarene and Salvation Army grew out of the Methodist movement but do not use “Methodist” in their names. Goodhue expects most congregations on Long Island to stay with the main denomination, which will support homosexual clergy and same-sex marriage, and will continue to be known as the United Methodist Church.
The constitution of Ascension Lutheran Church states that church leaders will form a council consisting of pastors and members of the church. Several churches have completed disaffiliation from United Methodist Church or Upper New York Conference. Commack United Methodist Church is steeped in history as well as today's spirit, while Community Gospel Church is a Full Gospel church made up of people from diverse ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds who have come together under Lord Jesus Christ.
